Group Classes

Introducing PD Box Fit

PD Box Fit is a group class designed specifically for people with Parkinson’s. The sessions begin with a warm-up and mobilisation section, followed by a strength and conditioning section to improve strength in areas that PD directly affects such as standing, sitting in a chair and getting up and down from the floor. Exercises that strengthen the core muscles and improves balance are included in order to help participants reduce the risk of falling.

The second half of the session is dedicated to boxing. Participants work on their footwork, punching technique, reaction times and combinations. Working on the heavy bags, participants will learn combinations and drills that improve hand speed, technique and punching power.

As well as achieving improvements in their Parkinson’s symptoms, PD Box Fit participants are also able to reduce stress levels (if you’re not sure what we mean, try pounding away on a heavy bag after a stressful day). By spending time with others who have Parkinson’s, each session feels like a support group.

Group class details

Each PD Box Fit session is open to participants of all Parkinson’s and skill levels. Each participant is encouraged to work at their own ability level.

Our classes are open to PD people, their carers, partners, family and friends. So if someone you care about has PD, bring them to a class and make sure you bring your workout gear too!

We offer the flexibility of both in person and Zoom classes. Classes run for 50 mins on ZOOM and 1 hour in person.

Hear from PD Box Fit participants

"Steve is understanding, empathetic and quietly patient, able to adapt the boxing program to suit individual needs. He is very encouraging as he challenges us to go that little bit further and work that little bit harder. Steve is a great motivator and inspiration. I have no doubt that his knowledge, his skills as a trainer and coach have contributed to my general sense of well-being, both physically and mentally, and introduced me to a program which is fun, challenging and enjoyable."

'I have done both personal training and Parkinson’s Group Boxing with Steve. He is extremely knowledgeable and his enthusiasm is contagious. It has been excellent to have a professional who genuinely understands where I am coming from (because he has been there himself). He pushes me to do my best and I feel he genuinely cares about my progress. The group classes have been enjoyable and given me an opportunity to mix with others with Parkinson’s in a social setting. Everyone supports each other and enjoys a chat after class. Steve is a genuine inspiration to all.'
